Job description

The Position:

The Data Science Manager - Card ML/AI is a unique opportunity for a well-rounded and hands-on leader in ML/AI. The Card Data Science Capabilities and Strategic Analytics team is responsible for driving adoption of ML/AI across the Card business and providing strategic insights to drive business optimization and an enhanced customer experiences. This position will play a critical role in leading the delivery of cutting-edge innovative ML/AI solutions and collaborating with our partners and stakeholder to enhance our data science capabilities across Card products and channels.

What to expect:

The Data Science Manager will leverage deep expertise in ML/AI to lead the design, build, and delivery of actionable and end-to-end analytical solutions supporting our Card business. This role is a mix of consulting know-how (problem solving, thought leadership, communication), analytical proficiency in statistics, data science and machine learning/AI, and, when required, hands-on proficiency in SQL/Python programming, visualization methods and technologies.

Key Responsabilities:
  • Drive data science and ML/AI strategies including recommendations on our tech-stack, services, protocols, and standards across the Card business
  • Demonstrate strong analytical ability through understanding and implementation of various statistical, data science, and machine learning techniques to answer business questions across the Card business
  • Lead teams of data scientists and develop, plan, and execute multiple ML/AI and data science projects as a team lead and, when necessary, as an individual contributor
  • Be a trusted advisor and thought leader by establishing partnerships with our stakeholders and providing recommendations on data science/ML best practices, methods and tools for analytical work in order to identify most impactful opportunities for our partners
  • Guide project teams in synthesizing analytical findings and insights for consumption by stakeholders and business executives across Card
  • Support recruiting and interviewing efforts to find and hire the best and diverse talent for Chase
  • Manage, develop and retain talent by creating an environment of open communication and fair performance assessment, promotion, and compensation
  • Set standards of excellence for the team by demonstrating professional expertise, strong work ethic, integrity and professional behavior

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant quantitative field required, advanced degree preferred in analytical field (e.g. Statistics, Economics, Applied Math, Operations Research, other Data Science fields); advanced degree preferred (MS/PhD)
  • 3+ years of hands on experience within marketing, finance, data science or risk analysis; experience evaluating complex business problems, data analysis and devising recommendations and analytics to solve those business problems
  • Experience of leading teams with a proven track record of being driving value for the business; direct people leadership experience desired
  • Thought leader in analytics who can help our internal clients define their business problem, create solutions to address it, and deliver those solutions
  • Proficiency in, or relevant exposure to, the breadth of analytics from data engineering & infrastructure to higher order modeling, including ML/AI model deployment and maintenance
  • Foundational and applied knowledge of statistical analyses, data science, and machine learning including, but not limited to:
    • descriptive, inferential, and where relevant, causal statistics
    • predictive and forecast modeling
    • optimization modeling
    • NLP and various deep learning approaches
    • A/B testing methods
  • Experience across a broad range of modern data science and analytics tools (e.g., SAS, SQL, Hive, Hadoop, Spark, Python, R)
  • Excellent communicator who is able to convey complex information in an understandable, compelling, and persuasive manner to non-technical clients and executives and junior data scientists
  • Intellectually curious and self-driven to understand business domains and their data
  • Excellent ability to influence and partner across a large organization and drive change
  • Understanding of the key drivers within the credit card P&L is preferred
  • Financial services background preferred, but not required
