Overview:
We are hiring a Data Governance Engineer to play a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s data. The successful candidate will design, implement, enhance, and oversee cybersecurity solutions to ensure data protection throughout the organization. This position resides in the Digital Platform Services Group within our Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations Support Division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As a part of our team, you will create, implement, and monitor security systems and features to prevent data breaches and handle tasks like defining and enforcing security policies, configuring firewalls and intrusion detection systems, responding to security crises, and conducting network maintenance. Additionally, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring data security and compliance with relevant cybersecurity laws and frameworks.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with data security policies, processes, and procedures in day-to-day management.
- Security Assessment: Continuously assess security effectiveness, identify updates, and explore opportunities for renewals or enhancements.
- Secure Data Transmission: Prevent unsafe data transmission and conduct confidential data transfers with firewall protection.
- Software Management: Install, uninstall, and maintain data security software.
- Forensic Analysis: Compile post-breach information for forensic analysis.
- Security Planning: Draft security plans based on the organization’s needs and current threats.

Basic Qualifications:
- A BS in information systems, computer science, computer engineering, information technology, business, or a related field of study and five (5) to seven (7) years of aligned experience is required. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
- 2 years of proven experience with Varonis and Microsoft Data Security platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Seeker of learning new technologies
- Self-starter that can perform at a high level with minimal direction.
- Strong attention to detail while working in a diverse team environment.
- A basic professional level of knowledge and experience in applying technical principles and theories.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four (4) or more years of proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining data security platforms.
- Four (4) or more years of proven experience with data encryption, hashing, tokenization, and database integrity tools.

- This position requires the ability to acquire and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
