The Survey Research Center, part of the Social Science Research Institute within Penn State University will be hiring residents in the neighborhoods around Bartram's Gardens to conduct door-to-door surveys this fall. The surveys will give residents a chance to share their experiences and priorities about facilities, programs, and civic engagement. Candidates need to be at least 18 years old and available to attend mandatory in-person training at a site near Bartram's Gardens in November/December 2022.

As a part of the job, candidates will have to establish and maintain good rapport with resident survey participants and keep detailed records of all work activities and administrative tasks. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon receipt of acceptable results from a Pennsylvania Clearance Package (PA State Police Criminal History, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprints through DHS).

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. Successful candidates should:
- Have customer service experience or experience working with the public
- Live near Bartram's Gardens; be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week (mostly afternoon, evening, and weekend hours) when work is available
- Be flexible with the hours worked to accommodate respondent schedules
- Be able to travel to and within the neighborhoods surrounding Bartram's Gardens
- Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position with reasonable accommodations (ability to lift and carry 10 - 15 pounds of equipment and materials, walk two blocks, climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment)
- Have regular and reliable access to cellular telephone service

Candidates will need to:
- Be able to work independently
- Have strong reading and verbal skills
- The ability to communicate with people from all walks of life and socio-economic groups,
- Basic computer skills (be able to access and browse the Internet, use the keyboard, send/receive email).
