The Role

ITHAKA is offering two Data Annotation Specialists for a 4 - 6 weeks fixed-term position to students with interests to support ground truth dataset creation initiatives and contribute to the development of Generative AI powered features on JSTOR. In this role, you will work for a total of 40 - 60 hours and play a vital part in shaping the future of JSTOR by supporting the development of cutting-edge Generative AI features. You'll be responsible for creating high-quality datasets, which will be used to evaluate and improve these features.

  • Help ensure the accuracy and completeness of our datasets, which are essential for building reliable AI features.
  • Assist in establishing baselines for measuring progress and evaluating future iterations of the features.
  • Contribute to streamlining our development process and bringing innovative features to life.

Responsibilities

  • Review provided documents to identify relevant information for annotation.
  • Generate initial ground truth answers using advanced AI tools.
  • Verify and refine generated answers for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure timely completion of dataset creation and alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide regular reports on completed tasks and progress updates to project stakeholders.

Experience and Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Humanities, Arts, or Social Sciences program or possess relevant background/experience.
  • Ability to run scripts provided by the team for Data Annotation tasks and familiarity with basic programming concepts.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools like ChatGPT or Google Bard.
  • Strong research and critical thinking skills.
  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently, and meet due dates.
  • Proficiency in English, with strong writing skills.
