RDS II:
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, the Research Data Specialist II will act in a lead capacity and perform the complex data management and analysis, economic and industry forecasting, and preparation of reports to support policy development and strategic decisions related to a safe, legal, sustainable, and equitable cannabis market. Responsible for conducting research, reporting, implementing, and providing high-level expertise and Data Analytics related to policies for the Policy and Research Division (Division), Department of Cannabis Control (Department).
This position is eligible for telework up to 5 days per week.
RDS I:

The Department's mission is to develop and implement progressive cannabis policies and license and regulate commercial cannabis activity in a way that best protects public health, safety, the environment, and local communities throughout the State of California.

Special RequirementsConflict of Interest (COI): This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st and within 30 days of leaving office.

    2. Describe your experience working with report writing or data visualization software. Include the type of products you have used (i.e. SAP, Tableau, SAS, Google Looker, IBM Cognos, PowerBI, etc.)

Desirable QualificationsIn addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
The candidate should have:
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Understanding of statistical analysis techniques and principles.
- Experience analyzing large data sets.
We would like the candidate to have:
- Experience with cannabis industry data or business practices.
- Experience using reporting or data warehouse software (e.g.: MS SQL, Oracle, etc.)
- Experience using business intelligence reporting software (e.g.: Tableau, SAS, PowerBI, Google Looker, etc.)
