Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, prepares and evaluates cytologic specimens to determine pathologic condition. Microscopically screens, assesses and reports negative gynecologic (Pap smear) findings to referring physicians. Locates pertinent cellular findings on glass slides. Prepares diagnostic assessments on reactive/reparative and abnormal gynecologic and all non-gynecologic specimens for pathologists’ review. Assists with the bedside collection and immediate specimen adequacy determinations of fine needle aspiration samples. Participates in quality control and quality assurance measures in accordance with regulatory agencies. Assumes additional responsibilities and job duties in support of services than a cytotechnologist I.

Job Description

Examines cells of the cytoplasm and nucleus to determine pathological conditions. Separates sediment and cells from blood serum and categorizes slides and records classification. Receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Detects abnormalities and communicates to pathologist to arrive at a final diagnosis and report.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Science degree, CT education from a CAHEA accredited school of Cytotechnology.
Three or more years full-time experience as a cytotechnologist within the previous ten years.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:  CT(ASCP) registration, successful completion of Pap PT from a CMS approved provider or Pap PT eligible, in the current calendar year.
