Responsibilities
THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Provide information and assistance to Metro-North customers.
  • Provide wheelchair and baggage assistance as directed.
  • Direct customers to proper track assignments during normal and track changes situations in compliance with gate policy of Stationmaster
  • Monitor and control Station Master's Office (SMO) Waiting Area
  • Ensure that gate displays are correct and reports exceptions to supervisors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or have completed the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC)
  • Verbal communication skills. Ability to lift and carry heavy luggage and baggage.
  • Ability to read timetables, turnaround sheets, and safety rules.
  • Knowledge of all trains arriving and departing Grand Central Terminal
  • Must wear prescribed uniform and maintain an accurate watch.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior Customer Service experience

Rate of Pay
The starting 70% rate of pay is $25.94. The 100% full rate of pay is $37.07.
The annual wage progression scale is as follows: Year 1=70% > Year 2=70% > Year 3=75%
> Year 4=80% > Year 5=85% > Year 6=85% > Year 7=90% > Year 8 > 100%.
This rate has been established by the collective bargaining unit and is non-negotiable.
Seniority
Applicants will establish seniority in the Transportation Communications International Union
(TCU), the union representing Customer Service Representatives, in accordance with the
union's current collective bargaining agreement.
Members of the TCU are subject to an initiation fee and monthly union dues.
Assignments
Assignments are generally in Grand Central Terminal (upper and lower concourse levels).
Must have the ability to work various hours, days, and shifts.
As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $105,472.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker.
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position
Physical Activities include but are not limited to the following : Must be able to lift and carry baggage and packages weighing up to 45 lbs. Verbal communication skills required to communicate with customers Walks and stands for duration of work hours.
Working Conditions include but are not limited to the following: Works within limits of Grand Central Terminal. Works in cramped quarters at information booth. Works exposed to various weather conditions.
