Summary
About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Customer Service Representative I within the Water Department. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of clerical and public contact work and to provide administrative support for a City department.
What you'll be doing:
  • Handle phone inquiries concerning policies, guidelines, procedure, services, payments, etc. as they relate to the City's operations.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for walk-in customers, answering questions and provide guidance regarding city services, including water bill payments, development permits, general building or services questions, etc.
  • Establish, terminate or change services based on account needs.
  • Perform general office work inputting data in software systems.
  • Checks related websites to conduct research.
  • Explain fee, policies, regulations, etc as they pertain to the department and City services.
  • Process adjustments regarding services, which includes processing claims adjustments for high water bills.
  • Perform general office work inputting data in multiple software systems, checking job related websites and using copy and fax machines.
  • May receive and post payments to accounts using payment soft ware and Munis system. Balances receipts at day's end, if receiving payments are part of responsibilities.
  • Perform back-up duties at as a cashier, assisting walk-in customers with payments and a variety of water-related issues.
  • Research account issues and handles special assignments as needed.
  • Supplemental Functions:
    • Perform other similar duties as required.

  • What you Bring:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent (GED)
  • One year of technical training such as budgeting software, Google platforms, MUNIS, and related computer programs, etc.
  • Some CUSTOMER SERVICE experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Bilingual in another language preferred but not required.
