Custodian/Facility Porter (BRONX)

A porter ensures a building or facility's cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep. They perform various cleaning and maintenance tasks to maintain a clean and pleasant environment for occupants, visitors, and employees.

We have Full-time and Part-time positions available!

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning:

• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
• Dust and wipe surfaces, including desks, shelves, and furniture.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and fixtures.
• Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste.
• Clean windows and mirrors.
• Clean and maintain common areas like lobbies, hallways, and elevators.

Maintenance:

• Report maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel, such as broken fixtures, leaks, or structural damage.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, or replacing air filters.
• Ensure all doors, windows, and entrances are secure and functioning correctly.
• Monitor and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies.

Safety and Security:

• Ensure that fire exits and emergency pathways are clear and accessible.
• Lock and unlock doors and gates as required.
• Respond to safety and security concerns, such as spills or hazardous conditions, and take appropriate action.

Compliance:

• Follow established cleaning and maintenance procedures.
• Adhere to health and safety guidelines and regulations.
• Keep records of cleaning activities and report any discrepancies.

Customer Service:

• Provide friendly and helpful assistance to building occupants and visitors.
• Address and resolve minor inquiries or complaints related to cleanliness and maintenance.

Teamwork:

• Collaborate with other members of the maintenance or janitorial team.
• Assist with special cleaning projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or equivalent may be required.
• Biligual (English & Spanish) is required.
• Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is often preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and techniques.
• Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependability and a strong work ethic.

Must be able to:

• Learn simple procedures and techniques.
• Be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Have a flexible schedule.
• Understand simple instructions.
• Ability to stand during the entire shift.
• Always maintain a warm and friendly demeanor.
• Must communicate verbally and written with all staff members in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
• Attend all company-required meetings and training.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag.

Job Type: Full-time and Part-time

Salary: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Bronx, NY: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Commercial cleaning: 1 year (Required)
