SALARY RANGE: $39,520 FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of College Custodial & Grounds
SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12 month position/PEERS
Position Summary
The Facility Custodian II provides leadership, guidance, and direction for custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of college buildings and grounds. The FC II is responsible for training employees in proper procedures as they pertain to sanitation and chemical usage. The FCII is responsible for establishing priorities, assigning tasks, and coordinating work projects with other team members across the college system.
Essential Job Duties
- Work with Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds to plan work priorities, obtain necessary supplies, and assess skills needed to complete tasks.
- Oversee work of assigned custodial team and ensure established standards are achieved.
- Ensure areas are clean and inviting for students, faculty, and all visitors.
- Utilize, maintain, and train employees on equipment and tools including vacuums, dust/wet mop, buffer, floor scrubber, carpet extractor, deicer, etc.
- Ensure that the custodial team has the equipment and supplies necessary to perform their duties by issuing supplies as needed and completing requests for the purchase of additional items.
- Assists in helping employees understand MSDS labels and mixing chemicals according to instructions.
- Perform daily custodial duties as needed in support of the departmental mission.
- Inspect the work of the custodial team and direct corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines.
- Assists in tracking and monitoring the use of labor and supplies.
- Provide instruction on the proper use of materials, equipment and training on proper cleaning and sanitation procedures, as well as personal protection equipment.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Assist team members with technical issues or advanced problems with given assignments.
- Collaborate with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments; delegate assignments based on team members' skills and experiences.
- Assist with planning and preparation of training and orientation for current and new custodial team members.
- Assist Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds in making sure college policies and procedures are followed.
- Address minor discipline with team members; refers more serious cases to Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.
- Assist in snow removal as needed.
Non-Essential Job Duties
- Inspection of work performed by team members. Extensive knowledge of floor care.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to identify issues and notify appropriate personnel. Capacity to assist in planning custodial maintenance schedules in areas.
- Exemplary punctuality and attendance.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Previous work experience in cleaning and polishing agents including their proper use and application.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, including chemical labels.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to pull and push up to 100 lbs.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.

In assigned areas lift and carry trash and litter as well as move recycling bins of paper.

In utility rooms, use hoses from appropriate chemical and water dispensers to mix chemicals into mop buckets etc.

Clean and disinfect bathrooms
Including spraying, wiping, mopping and scrubbing all surfaces in bathrooms to clean and disinfect.
Essential Job Function 5
Cleans assigned buildings and facilities.
Cleaning includes dusting surfaces and fixtures, scrubbing, mopping, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and/or polishing floors and woodwork; washing windows and other fixtures.
Environmental Conditions
Environmental conditions noted include the employees working in locations that include Indoors, Outdoors and Ground Vehicle. The temperature in these locations are Climate Controlled, Extreme Cold and Extreme Heat. Exposures noted include High Noise, Dust, Fumes, Vibration, Slippery Surfaces and Moving Machinery.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment associated with eye and face protection include Safety Glasses. Personal Protective Equipment associated with hand and arm protection include Protective Gloves. Personal Protective Equipment associated with hearing protection include Single Use Ear Plugs.
