Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Supervisor Facilities & Operations, performs routine janitorial cleaning and light maintenance of library buildings and grounds in order to keep library facilities and grounds clean, safe and attractive in appearance. Stocks and maintains appropriate levels of custodial supplies for assigned agency. Operates janitorial equipment, utilizes cleaning chemicals and uses appropriate hand tools in performance of duties. Sets-up meeting rooms and moves equipment, furniture, and other materials as directed. Performs snow removal as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
- Performs routine daily cleaning of facilities including cleaning of patron areas, restrooms and staff areas, in accordance with department procedures and standards.
- Maintains appearance of grounds by routine policing of grounds and maintenance of landscaped areas. Performs lawn mowing and snow removal duties as assigned.
- Performs meeting room set-ups, moving of furniture & equipment, etc.
- Performs special tasks and project cleaning as assigned and in cooperation with other custodial and maintenance staff as needed.
- Actively supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. Promotes a culture where all staff and customers belong.
- Participates in staff meetings and training, communicates with co-workers and supervisors and may serve on various library committees.
- Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods and ability to perform assigned cleaning, grounds maintenance, light maintenance and other assigned tasks according to established guidelines.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize various custodial cleaning equipment, hand tools and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers.
- Ability to utilize PC to send and receive e-mail and use electronic timecard.
Training/Experience/Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of custodial or maintenance work experience.
- Valid driver license; must be insured and meet Ohio’s minimum coverage requirement for auto insurance.
- Must meet insurance eligibility requirements of the Library’s insurance carrier under the Library’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
- May be required to drive library owned or non-library owned personal vehicles on a regular basis on behalf of library business.
- Exposure to continuous equipment noise for periods of time on a daily basis. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions in performance of duties.
- Duties may require wearing of appropriate personal protective gear. (Rubber gloves, goggles, safety glasses, ear plugs, dust mask, etc.)
- Frequent use of personal vehicle or library vehicle may be required to travel between agencies.
- May operate hazardous equipment (i.e., saws, drills, mechanical lifts, lawnmowers, and other equipment.)
- May be required to use a stepladder, extension ladder or mechanical lift in performance of duties.
- May be exposed to fall hazard while working on roofs or other elevated areas. Frequent exposure to low and high voltage electrical hazards, rotating equipment hazards, stored energy hazards, (i.e.: pressurized steam and water lines,) and other hazards associated with the maintenance of commercial facilities.
