Job description

Duties

Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday 9:30 P.M. - 6:00 A.M. Hours may change due to the operational needs of management.

This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.

Major Duties

  • Plans use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities and work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by higher level management. As required, coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors.
  • Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones can be delayed and the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, material and equipment available and required. Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and/or equipment failure, etc. Informs the Branch Chief of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimates labor and other resources. Participates with the Branch Chief in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, staffing needs, estimates and recommendations as to scheduling projected work.
  • Assigns work to employees and provides technical direction and/or assistance in accomplishing the work. Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems (e.g., excessive costs, low productivity, workload imbalance, space rearrangement and acquisition or development of specialized tools, etc.) and determines causes. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems. Recommends acquisition of specialized equipment and tools. Resolves staffing and work operations problems. Establishes or revises standard operating procedures for the work operation.
  • Plans and established overall leave schedules. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsels employees on performance, sets performance standards and makes formal appraisals of subordinates' work performance. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommends employees for promotion or reassignments. Counsels employees on problems and adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Initiates proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed. May serve as management representative at hearings, meetings and negotiations involving labor-management relations. Promotes positive work environment and the participation of employees in such programs as the suggestion program. Maintains production reports and records.
  • Provides leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements.   • Based on duties assigned, may require knowledge of hazardous (e.g. lead paint and solvents) and universal (e.g. lamps and batteries) waste management requirements to ensure compliance with environmental regulations in performance of duties (e.g. decide hazardous material is no longer needed and will be disposed, select containers for waste accumulation, add waste to containers, label containers, move waste to and from waste accumulation sites, manage waste accumulation sites).
  • Is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized. Routinely checks to verify that subordinates are using all required PPE.
