About the role
The Custodial Assistant, Operations, will assist the Facilities Maintenance team and be responsible for cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining of the building in both public and non-public areas. This includes offices, galleries, staircases, elevators, and other areas as detailed below.
Responsibilities:
- These duties include but are not limited to: dust, sweep, damp mop, wet mop, scrub, strip and polish assigned areas with manual and/or mechanical equipment using solvents, waxes, polishes and other approved cleansing agents
- Remove gum, spot clean, shampoo and vacuum floors, rugs, mats and runners
- Dust and/or wash glass walls using appropriate materials by hand and/or machine
- Remove and/or clean curtains, drapes, blinds and shades. Clean mirrors and glass in bookcases, doors and windows
- Polish furniture and metal work by hand or by machine
- Cleaning and replenish toilet supplies
- Sweep sidewalks and wash sidewalks and lower portion of buildings with brush and hose
- Operate elevators, move furniture, supplies, materials when required
- Act as a museum guard or messenger when required
- Work from ladders when required
- Assist with snow removal when required
- Required to wear safety equipment and PPE on the job as necessary
- Take responsibility for the safety and protection of all related Museum buildings, collections, personnel, Museum visitors, and equipment
- Assist with fire and safety team functions as deemed necessary by the Fire and Life Safety Director
Qualifications:
- Able to meet medical and physical requirements which allow for the performance of medium labor and cleaning
- Ability to lift and transport heavy items, up to 50 pounds
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred
- OSHA 10-hour training

Schedule: Wednesday–Sunday, 11:00 am–8 pm. This position is subject to occasional overtime and weekend hours.
