Position Description

The Assistant Manager provides operational, day-to-day leadership for the custodial staff. You report to the Facilities manager. In addition, the position is also responsible for performing the custodian job duties to maintain a clean and safe environment for all staff, volunteers, program participants, customers, and guests at GCC.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Required to pass background check to work in childcare facility
  • Required to have valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to be trained to drive a GCC van
  • Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations
  • Strong organizational, facilitating, and leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal comprehension and communication
  • Proficient in office software including Outlook, MS Word, Adobe, Power Point, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Minimum 1 year of previous custodial experience
  • Ability to read schedules, duties, and room diagrams
  • Effective communication skills to interact with staff, volunteers, and community members. Ability to communicate effectively regarding the cleaning needs and requirements of various programs
  • Willingness to accept direction, advice, and work as part of a team
  • Ability to continuously operate necessary cleaning equipment (mechanical as well as manual equipment).
  • Experience setting up cleaning systems
  • Education or specialized mechanical systems or equipment training
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience
  • Trustworthy and dependable

Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day operational leadership of the custodial team
  • Schedule custodial staff and outside contractors, including filling in when staff are out sick/PTO coverage
  • Assign cleaning tasks and perform audits for completion and quality
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues as necessary
  • Schedule and plan cleaning and department tasks
  • Onboarding of new custodial staff and training new staff, existing staff, and outside contractors
  • Solicit bids and work with vendors for projects that can’t be done in house
  • Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and in consultation with the HR Director, make hiring decisions and execute other personnel transactions including but not limited to merit increase, promotions/demotions, dismissals
  • Ensure custodial closets are up to fire code
  • Encourage direct and indirect reports’ professional development
  • Review and approve payroll related transactions for direct reports
  • Schedule and plan quarterly custodial meetings, and other inter-departmental meetings
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty training and rotation
  • Manage the program budget and ensure appropriate and allowable expenditures
  • Provide each member of staff with timely evaluations in accordance with GCC policy

Custodial Responsibilities:

  • Perform custodial duties during your scheduled shift
  • Ensure custodial needs are met throughout the entire campus
  • Regularly spot check grounds and buildings
  • Ensure room setups are done correctly and on time
  • Ensure garbage corrals remain clean and tidy
  • Follow procedures for preventative maintenance, scheduled maintenance and cleaning projects
  • Follows basic cleaning procedures and proper use of chemicals
  • Report on security and building issues to Facilities Manager
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
  • Performs snow removal and outdoor grounds maintenance as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned
