Position Purpose
This Career Technical Education position will be responsible for presenting and explaining learning materials and educating students in the career clusters of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). The teacher will communicate the subject matter by using a variety of means such as printed, visual, audio, and/or video materials and develop assessment tools to evaluate learning. The teacher must create/develop curriculum pacing guides, form daily lesson plans, and prepare all lesson materials to meet the TN standards. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining and managing the classroom. Career Technical Education teachers are responsible for meeting the Tennessee Department of Education requirements for Perkins V.
Qualifications Profile
This position requires a passion for learning and dynamic sharing of knowledge related to STEM career clusters through strong verbal and written communication skills in a clear, consistent, and respectful manner. Candidate must be creative and be able to create an interactive project-based learning environment within the classroom. The teacher may be expected to implement innovative projects related to various STEM events as well as assist with student-based organizations as deemed necessary by the administration. The teacher must be comfortable with technology both audio and visual and be willing to organize/direct the media programming of the school. Strong organizational skills and the ability to take on many tasks at once and prioritize them by importance and relevance are essential skills for the position.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers STEM education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in the following subjects to secondary students: (a) discovering their personal strengths and abilities, (b) understanding opportunities available to them in different STEM career areas, and (c) practicing skills necessary to excel in the workforce and in postsecondary learning such as safety, engineering process, and engineering design.
  • Prepares appropriate instructional aids and display materials to enhance learning.
  • Instructs students in use, care, and safe operation of STEM equipment.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business community.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Director of Schools.

Equipment
Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of STEM curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use audio/visual equipment and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments.
Certification/License:
  • [TN] State Certification as required for position.
  • Endorsement Code(s): Science, Math, or endorsement codes required to teach High School STEM Career Cluster Classes.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • TN DOE STEM training will be required.
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
Experience:
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
