Job Summary
The Early Childhood Education teacher prepares students to be life-ready as they manage individual, family, career, and community roles and responsibilities. The teacher assists students individually and in groups through project-based learning experiences to develop leadership, interpersonal, and career skills. Prepare students for a variety of career pathways available post high school. Oversee and plan Early Childhood classroom activities, supervise student assistants, provide direct care to the children, collaborate with parents, mentor, and supervise children. The teacher reports to the principal and assistant principal.
Essential Job Functions
- Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroup of students.
- Implements an instructional program, which provides appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction.
- Works cooperatively with the all staff members and interacts in a positive manner with parents and other community representatives.
- Directs instructional assistants, student teachers, assistant teachers, and/or student volunteers to provide an effective classroom program and address the needs of individual students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior.
- Demonstrates effective knowledge and use of curriculum content associated with the instructional assignment.
- Administers developmental testing program and subject specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or to develop individual learning plans.
- Coordinates instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff, both school based and non-school based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities.
- Maintains an effective system of monitoring student progress and informs appropriate persons when concerns arise.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the principal, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in the areas of family and consumer sciences and early education, or eligibility to obtain one.
Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents,
Work effectively as a team player
Experience in classroom supervision with attention to developmentally appropriate practices
Experience working with children ages 3 to 5 years old.
Ability to communicate and relate with parents. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, have good hearing and eyesight, and mobility to work with children on the floor with repetitive stretching and bending
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with supervision of student assistants.
Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
Food handler's card
Conditions of Employment
Must successfully pass criminal and childcare background checks.
Fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate.
Must provide documentation of clear TB screening.
Must have of obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and MAT training within 30 days of employment.
