The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking a CSI Detective to join their team in the Investigative division/Forensic Science Laboratory. Sheriff's CSI Detectives conduct crime scene investigations in communities where the Sheriff's Office is the primary provider of law-enforcement services, in communities where the local police department requests assistance, and in county facilities, including but not limited to, Hennepin Healthcare, North Memorial Hospital, and the Adult Corrections Facility.
Targeted starting salary range:
Sheriff's Detective: $84,608.16-$115.019.18 Annually
Full salary range:
Sheriff's Detective: $76,679.45-$115,019.18 Annually
About the position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.
This position is internally classified as a Sheriff's Detective.

- Gather, preserve, and analyze facts and evidence.
- Give authorized information to attorneys, other law enforcement officers, and the public.
- Locate, collect, preserve evidence.
- Photograph crime scenes and accident scenes.
- Measure, sketch, and complete diagrams of crime scenes.
- Package evidence for transportation to forensic laboratory facility.
- Locate, develop, and recover latent fingerprints.
- Preform specialized functions including bloodstain pattern recognition, shooting reconstruction/trajectory analysis, and forensic mapping.
- Prepare material evidence for courtroom presentations, testify in court, and present and explain photographs, charts, and exhibits.
- Educate law enforcement agencies in crime scene management.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Five years or more of law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer.
- Associate degree or higher and three or more years of law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer.
- Must be licensed as a Peace Officer by the State of Minnesota.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule including on-call, weekends, holidays, a rotating schedule, and emergency call back 24 hours a day.
- A valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

- Forensic mapping proficient.
- 7x GPS Mapper.
- X7 3D Scanner.
- DNA and Bloodstain Pattern Recognition.
- 360 Panoramic Camera operation.
- Training in:
- Leucocrystal Violet (LCV).
- Bluestar.
- Footwear impression photography and collection.
- Toolmark impression photography and collection.
- Familiarization with D7200 Nikon camera.
- Firearms safe handling.
- Ability to:
- Apply problem solving skills and make data driven recommendations for action.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
