About the Role…
The Sanitizer will report to the Sanitation Manager. The Sanitizer will be responsible for supporting housekeeping and master sanitation schedule activities to support sanitary operational conditions in the facility to meet the established requirements in food safety, safety, and quality. This position works closely with the Sanitation Manager to create and maintain programs to support the audit ready all the time culture.


This position is a union position and after completing a 60-day probationary period, must join to become a member of the Baker’s Confectionary Tobacco Grain Milling (BCTGM) Union, Local 53.

About the Work Environment…

This position is located at the Amsterdam, New York LEED® certified production facility. The candidate will also be required to work in a food manufacturing environment that requires hairnet, beard cover, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes and uniform. Restrictions include wearing of jewelry, nail polish and acrylic nails. Other personal protection equipment may be required for certain tasks.


What You’ll Do…

  • Perform tasks as per Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Comply to all PPE and GMP standards.
  • Assist in maintaining plant sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Replenish all necessary GMP supply stations (hairnets, beard nets, etc.) with daily inventory.
  • Clean boots and refill sanitizer mats.
  • Empty filled trash containers from production floor and replace with clean container.
  • Continue to develop SSOPs to improve master sanitation schedule.
  • Clean the Dust Collection system daily.
  • Inspect clean brushes and cleaning utensils.
  • Clean, inspect, and document cleaning tasks daily.
  • Perform corrective actions generated from pest control service reports.
  • Support Quality Supervisors on pre and post operational inspecting.
  • Assist with special projects (e.g. COVID-19 disinfection).
  • Adhere to safe work practices by following GMP, HACCP, BRC guidelines; maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product is maintained in order to maintain BRC certification.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect the business to management.
  • Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble equipment along with cleaning and sanitizing the area with the use of sanitation chemicals and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need…

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Flexibility in assigned shift schedule is required (ex. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, weekend work and shutdown schedules)
  • Experience in manufacturing with responsibility for production processing, packaging, and sanitation
  • Experience operating a boom lift operation, electric pallet jack, scissor lift, and floor scrubber equipment
  • Ability to read and understand cleaning chemical SDS, storage, handling, and usage instructions
  • Ability to prepare and apply sanitation chemicals per SSOPs
  • Experience assisting in pre and post operational inspection
  • Ability to learn and perform ATP testing to verify equipment cleanliness
  • Basic computer skills required (ex. typing, e-mail, Microsoft Word)
  • Preferred Certifications: AIB Certification in Food Processing Sanitation/Hygiene
  • Preferred Systems: Experience using Operation systems (ex. Tabware)

Rate of Pay:
$21.47 per hour, + shift differentials if applicable ($0.45 for 2nd shift & $0.50 for 3rd), overtime calculated daily, pay is weekly.
