Crisis Services Clinician

$1000 sign-on bonus for full-time positions

Location: Charlotte County

Charlotte Behavioral Health Care's (CBHC) is our area's largest not-for-profit provider of community-based behavioral health care, offering a full range of mental health and substance use services in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, North Port, Sarasota, and DeSoto and Lee Counties. Position Summary

CBHC has a unique opportunity for a full-time Crisis Services Clinical Manager. This position provides clinical and leadership support to the clinical teams providing services in our inpatient and residential facilities.

The Central Receiving Facility (CRF) provides assessment and treatment services 24/7. The CRF is a 30-bed inpatient facility with separate adult and children's units designed to serve those who are experiencing an acute mental health or substance use crisis and in immediate need of crisis and stabilization service, voluntarily or involuntarily. The treatment team provides individualized, structured treatment plans and therapeutic activities to individuals. Once stabilized, the team works to connect the individual and family to follow-up services.

The Recovery Center (RC) is a 15-bed, 28-day residential substance use treatment program for adults. The RC employs Recovery Specialists and clinicians to provide intensive, structured treatment to persons that have serious, chronic substance use disorder(s) (SUD). By providing a safe, substance-free environment, patients have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to live a substance-free lifestyle. Therapeutic services include individual, group, and family/significant other counseling; medication management, psychoeducation; overdose prevention and safety planning; relapse prevention; and life skills training.

The Crisis Services Evaluator/Screener provides crisis evaluations and referrals for individuals and families seeking assistance through CBHC. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Makes clinical determination of mental status, suicidality, homicidality, or self neglect of persons who present to the CRF or RC
  • Responsible for screening, assessment, and discharge planning for persons receiving services at the CRF or RC
  • Conducts individual and/or family sessions as well as leading group therapeutic activities for adults and children receiving inpatient services
  • Obtains collateral information from persons who are familiar with the client in order to assess the level of risk
  • Refers to licensed provider for involuntary assessment as needed.
  • Assists patients with setting up outpatient appointments or with referrals to external community resources
  • Assists with completion of emergency screenings for services as needed
  • Provides information regarding mental health and substance use diagnosis and treatments
  • Provides crisis de-escalation assistance to individuals in inpatient services
  • Performs transfer evaluations per Baker Act law as needed
  • Completes up-to-date documentation in accordance with the internal and external audit standards

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in human services field.
  • One (1) year experience working with individuals in behavioral health
  • Experience working with individuals in crisis or substance abuse is preferred.
  • Must maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct, while adhering to agency policies and procedures
  • Ability to pass Level II Background clearance, drug test (CBHC is a drug free workplace)
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
  • Valid FL driver's license, insurance, and safe driving record
  • Dependable transportation (registered, safe operating conditions, etc.)
