Position Description
Position Title: Crisis Intervention Specialist/Legal Advocate
This Position Reports To: Executive Director
Position Summary:
The Crisis Intervention Specialist/Legal Advocate is responsible for providing support services to victims and their families in the SAS office and through the Waycross Judicial Circuit. This position will also be a legal advocate guiding the victim through the legal process and accompany them in court, if requested.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet families, orient them to the waiting room and assist with intake paperwork
- Provide immediate crisis counseling and case management assessments to ensure that victims and families are comfortable, their needs are met while at the center and are provided with necessary referrals
- Assist with making referrals for counseling, medical exams, other needed services and provide educational and resource information, as well as Victims Compensation paperwork
- Conduct forensic interviews of children alleged to be victims of abuse as needed, in coordination with investigative agencies and the County’s Child Abuse Protocol
- Enter data and maintain case tracking database and to comply with reporting requirements and provide accurate information regarding victims to involved agencies.
- Schedule counseling including calling patients for appointment reminders and follow ups
- Assist with on-call coverage to ensure all survivors of child abuse and sexual assault immediate 24/7 access to support, education, crisis-stabilization and follow-up services.
- Provide legal advocacy to victims and their non-offending families/caretakers in the SAS office, legal office or court room, as needed. This position will inform and discuss the legal process, legal rights, possible outcomes and provide information that will help survivors make informed decisions regarding engagement in the court process.
- Assists victim or non-offending caregiver with gaining information regarding the progress of their case.
- Work collaboratively with the court system to provide information on the victim’s case as it develops.
- Participate as a member of the SAS team by demonstrating a willingness to share responsibilities as needed, providing flexibility in personal scheduling, and committing to and participating in the mission of the organization
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in victim services
