The Journal Star in Peoria, Illinois, is looking for a Criminal Justice Reporter to join our talented and experienced team. The ideal candidate will be able to go beyond crime briefs and breaking news to write enterprise and investigative articles. The beat will also involve coverage of law enforcement and the court system.
We're looking for someone who works efficiently and understands readers are our priority. Our audience craves daily news and insightful enterprise at pjstar.com. We take pride in reporters who routinely deliver both.
We value versatility and the ability to write on an array of topics. We need someone who understands the inner workings of the Criminal Justice system and will help us stand out from the competition with unique and compelling stories. We're searching for someone who interacts with the public and promotes their work and our brand on social media. The ideal reporter can find stories in multiple ways: tips from trusted sources or scanning social media to brings facts and context to a hot community topic.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or master's in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong command of AP style and grammar.
• The job does involve some weekends and maybe evenings, depending on staffing and the news cycle
• This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
