Position Summary
This position collects, categorizes, analyzes, and disseminates crime data in support of the City's pro-active, problem solving, policing program. The incumbent creates and maintains a variety of records and documents relying on complex and detailed statistical analysis.
The work performed is of a highly confidential and complex nature and requires independent judgment and application of professional knowledge and expertise within a general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor.
Examples of Job Duties
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  1. Collects, analyzes and interprets data and statistics using quantitative and qualitative methodologies; provides specific intelligence and investigative lead information to investigators.
  2. Develops crime/suspect and suspect/crime correlations and target profile analysis; conducts cross-case and linkage analysis using computerized database to identify relationships between crimes and criminal suspects.
  3. Initiates and disseminates crime analysis reports, bulletins, and data related to crime series, trends, patterns, and suspect individuals to department personnel to enhance directed patrol and investigative activity.
  4. Prepares charts, graphs, maps, and written reports of specific crimes by area and section relying on complex and detailed statistical analysis.
  5. Assists with the development of agency strategies and planning in response to crime trends, including creating or modifying existing programs.
  6. Examines existing laws, codes, and regulations to determine those most advantageous for enforcement in addressing current crime trends.
  7. Monitors and tracks criminal activity and assists in developing methods and procedures for the dissemination of information to the public.
  8. Conducts resource allocation studies for the purposes of deployment and scheduling.
  9. Responds to requests for information and analytical reports.
  10. Provides crime analysis data to city programs targeted to address neighborhood and community issues.
  11. May present testimony at preliminary hearings, grand jury proceedings and trials regarding investigations, and conducts briefings to present intelligence data to authorized officials.
  12. Researches records and uses computerized databases to conduct investigations based on specific request for information or in response to identifiable events.

Qualifications
A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.
Experience:
  • Two years of related crime/Intelligence Analyst experience.

Education and Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, statistical analysis, or a related field.

Licenses or Certificates:
  • Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver's License.
  • Possession of Certificates in Introduction to Crime Analysis, Advanced Concepts in Crime Analysis, and/or Criminal Intelligence preferred.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one year of hire date, FBI Secret Security Clearance.

Other:
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background check.
  • Must successfully pass a polygraph examination and drug screening.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position works in an office, and the noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. Attendance at meetings may also be required outside the normally scheduled hours of work.

The City of Marysville offers a comprehensive benefit package for regular full-time employees.
