Summary
Responsible for the activities of the crew to ensure appropriate and timely completion of maintenance and projects.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
- Assist supervisor in planning, scheduling, coordinating equipment, staff and other resources to complete operational requirements; track crew's time and expenses on work management system.
- Monitor and perform maintenance work; adjust assignments to complete tasks, as needed.
- Assist supervisor by calculating materials and making recommendations on purchases for their crews' needs.
- Operate equipment and perform duties of assigned staff, as needed.
- Coach and train assigned staff on the best and safest methods of accomplishing tasks, primarily through on the job or individual instruction; provide timely feedback to assigned staff.
- Operate hand tools to heavy, complex equipment; oversee safe and appropriate use of equipment.
- Ensure assigned staff understand and follow City of Denton and Department policies, practices, and procedures.
- Maintain thorough understanding of division standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, processes and best techniques and practices;
- Routinely communicate expectations to team members; monitor work environment to ensure the appropriate policies and procedures are followed.
- Investigate internal and external stakeholder concerns; perform research for issues coordinates and facilitates necessary actions to resolve concern as appropriate; when necessary, communicate directly for identification of service needs and address concern with appropriate written, verbal, or in-person follow-up.
- Assist with capital project management and construction; track and report irregularities with potential corrective actions.
- Perform job functions of the Field Supervisor in their absence.
- Ensure department operations meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) 1590B permit rules and regulations by supervising, training, and developing staff, including but not limited to, Landfill Heavy Equipment Operator I (HEO I), Heavy Equipment Operator II (HEO II), and Field Service Worker II.
- Spend 90% of the time in the field.
- Assist with post-accident and/or emergency procedures; help complete field reports.
- Promote a culture of safety.
- Assist with oversight of the electric pre/post-trip inspection program; notify leadership of any machinery/vehicle maintenance and/or repairs.
- Perform HEO I and/or HEO II duties, as needed.
- Knowledge of GPS and grade control systems
- Train, supervise, and evaluate staff; assist with staff selection and recommendations for assignment/assignment change.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent; and,
- One (1) year supervisory experience; and,
- For Solid Waste/Landfill, three (3) years' experience in Solid Waste, construction, household waste, collections, or landfill operation, or related field; and,
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of maintenance and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per to department/division.
- Knowledge of fertilizers, pesticides, turf, shrubs, trees, and ornamentals that are adapted to North Central Texas.
- Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, mobile devices, and other software systems to complete work.

- Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must attend and successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course (DDC) as soon as possible after employment (if required to drive City vehicle or personal vehicle for City business).
- For Solid Waste/Landfill, if do not possess, must obtain a (TCEQ) MSW "A" or "B" license; MSW "B" after 2 years of Solid Waste experience and/or MSW "A" after 4 years of experience.
- For Solid Waste/Landfill, if do not possess, must obtain a Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Manger of Landfill Operations certification within 3 years of employment.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements
SAFETY
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions in work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment and a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic hand tools up to heavy equipment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE),
- For Solid Waste - Equipment use includes trash compactors, container truck/claw truck, Roll Off and Front Load trucks, dozers, excavators, articulated dump and/or water trucks, Motor Grader, scrapers, track loaders, rubber tire loaders, backhoes, skid steers and other passenger vehicles.
- Posture: Prolonged balancing, standing, walking, and climbing; occasional sitting; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions.
- Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- If Parks and Recreation, 100 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Environment: Works outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, no/low light, insects, poison oak/ivy, debris, odor, chemicals, vibration, fumes, confined spaces, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- If Parks and Recreation, repairs overhead lighting from ground to heights of 80 feet.
- Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must maintain accessibility to respond to emergencies at all hours, if needed. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as needed. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, staggered shifts based on business necessity and as needed.
