Position Summary
The Credit Specialist plays an important role in the organization by performing a number of administrative-related and credit tasks for the Loan Servicing Department. The role is primarily responsible, under moderate supervision, for researching credit disputes, following up on missing documents, researching and analyzing complex requests and ensuring that required updates are performed within required regulatory timelines.
Essential Functions
- Investigate, process and respond to credit disputes and discrepancies accordingly.
- Communicate with Credit Reporting Agencies (CRA) and update credit reporting using the CRA approved system, E-Oscar.
- Monitor and track credit dispute requests to identify potential service or system deficiencies or issues.
- Research and analyze complex requests and ensure that required updates are performed within required regulatory timelines.
- Analyze reports necessary to ensure work is completed according to required timelines, procedures and regulations.
- Perform necessary research and actions based on report finding, notifying management of status, any issues and proposed resolutions.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance, including but not limited to: Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies Act, Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices, Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to position.
- Identify and implement process efficiencies and submit procedures updates for approval.
- Identify and resolve issues that arise outside of the normal course of business.
- Provide additional support throughout the department through performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, along with a minimum of three years total experience providing general administrative support in a back office financial services environment required, preferably in mortgage banking preferred.
- Intermediate math skills required.
- General knowledge of mortgage banking preferred.
- Highly organized and detail oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment required.
- Proficient with data entry, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- 10-key by touch preferred.
- Experience with Metro 2 software preferred.
- Prior experience using document retention software; Blitzdoc preferred.
- Professional and pleasant demeanor.

Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
Audio/Visual: Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.
Environmental: Office environment – no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
