Job description

Position Summary:
The Credit Risk Analyst conducts credit data gathering and analysis and provides reporting and analytical support to lending and credit management. This involves mining and interpreting data and developing and implementing reporting systems and dashboards used in measuring and managing loan portfolios. This position is responsible for managing Credit Risk model validations to ensure continued accurate and predictive outcomes in alignment with risk management strategies. Carrying out these functions involves generating and maintaining the reporting systems used in managing portfolio risk, reporting on the status of various credit processes and positions, and presenting data analysis. The position reports to Credit Administration Manager the with significant internal client relationships with lending management and loan operations. In addition to lending and credit management reporting, this position provides reporting for regulators, internal loan review, external loan review, and auditors.
Essential Responsibilities:
Job Function 1: Credit Risk Analysis - 50%
  • Extract and collect data from various sources, then reorganize said data in a format that can be easily read.
  • Streamline data collection methods to create automated and easy-to-use routines.
  • Design and maintain data systems and databases, including fixing coding errors and other data-related problems.
  • Use statistical tools to interpret data sets and analyze collected data.
  • Interpret Credit Risk data trends and patterns.
  • Prepare Credit Risk management reports that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using the relevant data.
  • Collaborate with other employees to determine areas of improvement in relation to the data.
  • Create appropriate process and outcome documentation.
  • Monitor and analyze Credit Risk model performance on an on-going basis to ensure outcomes meet risk tolerance levels established by the Board of Directors and Lending Management.
  • Conduct migration analysis of Credit Risk model performance.
  • Perform stress testing activities of the loan portfolios and pools.

Job Function 2: Credit Reporting - 25%
  • Develop and prepare new and existing loan portfolio management reports, underwriting management reports, and credit governance reports.
  • Obtain and prepare information in support of ad hoc lending information requests, data quality assessments, and audits.
  • Prepare data and reports for Board of Director and Alerus Investor presentations.
  • Prepare loan data for the Accounting and Enterprise Risk departments.
  • Build and maintain top level dashboards to disseminate and communicate credit portfolio information and key risk elements.

Job Function 3:Credit Risk Model Oversight - 15%
  • Perform Credit Risk model validation to ensure models are producing effective and accurate credit outcomes in alignment with the Board of Director's risk appetite and in accordance with risk model processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with business lines and model users to understand the business context for model use.
  • Perform large dataset extraction, scrubbing, organization, and mapping.
  • Perform or outsource model validation analysis to test and document the validity and accuracy of risk models in the credit decisioning processes.
  • Establish and maintain independent model review and validation thought processes while adhering to overall business and regulatory guidelines.
  • Evaluate adequacy of model design and identify any modeling gaps, errors, or oversights and recommend ways to address these issues.
  • Research and provide supporting materials (white papers, performance charts) to support or reject a modeling framework.
  • Build top level dashboards to provide model metrics and manage key risk elements.
  • Summarize testing results, conclusions, and issue in a model validation report.
  • Communicate model capabilities, issues and limitations to key stakeholders or regulators as needed.

Job Function 4: Administrative - 10%
  • Provide project support by contributing to and participating in assigned lending project tasks to include managing assigned project tasks and deadlines.
  • Update and maintain process and procedures pertaining to role.
  • Prioritize multiple demands to provide maximum support.

Position Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business related field or equivalent experience in the financial industry with a minimum of two years of experience performing high level financial analysis or risk assessments. Experience developing analytical tools to evaluate and perform financial analysis a plus.
  • Knowledge of loan accounting platforms, the lending process, and portfolio reporting solutions.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, and Power BI report maintenance and creation. File import and export knowledge, and data set analysis skills.
  • Experience with risk model management.

Physical Demands - Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
