General Summary: Researches and writesoriginal copy for a host of college publications and assists in writing forother mediums, including but not limited to, TV and radio transmissions, the weband social media as and when required. Serves as Managing Editor for thecollege's internal e-newsletter. Functions as copyeditor for a full range of communications.
Requirements: Bachelor'sdegree in creative writing, journalism, marketing, communications, liberal artsor related field and a minimum of four years' related experience. Knowledge of and experience with APstyle, copyediting marks required; experience in higher education marketing& communications and/or agency experience preferred.
Mustbe comfortable turning around copy quickly and willing and able to meet tightdeadlines. Must be knowledgeable of standard publishing industry lingo;copyediting notations and marks; and AP Style. Must also be well-versed inwriting styles and formats and able to write for various mediums. Must bedetail-oriented and skilled at fact checking sources. Able and willing to work weekends and eveningswhen necessary. Some limited regional travel required.
Duties:
- Researches and writescopy for college-related publications.
- Works with the chiefmarketing & public relations officer to develop new communications pieces. Managesprojects through the editorial, design and production stages. Keeps projects ontrack and within budget. Ensures that all publications adhere to current brandand production quality standards.
- Gathersinformation from original and sourced material, arranging and conductinginterviews with internal and external content experts when necessary. Workswith members of the college community, including administrators, faculty,students and alumni in order to develop communication pieces. Also works with externalpartners such as business & industry leaders and civic organizations.
- Assists other departments,serving as internal consultant on publication/project development, positioningand messaging. Represents the department on various college committees and subcommittees.
- Providesassistance and editorial review for external and internal college publicationsand ensures branding standards and guidelines are adhered to and are consistentacross the college.
- Providescopywriting, editing and proofreading for a variety of internal constituents.
- Performs otherrelated duties as required or as assigned.
Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
