The office of the Vice President of Communications and Marketing is seeking a Creative Content Specialist with demonstrated skills and experience in Social Media content design and strategy to elevate institutional messaging through Creative Content development and management of complex digital strategies.
The ideal individual for this role will be skilled in the creation of consistently branded content that encourages sharing, engagement, and promotion of highly valuable programs and initiatives. This specialist should be interested in not just producing dynamic content but also assessing and optimizing its value and return on investment. The ideal candidate will be an innovative creative with robust experience in vertical video (Instagram Reels and TikTok), a big-picture thinker interested in adapting popular campaigns and strategies for the higher education environment, and an excellent communicator with a solid understanding of inclusive and diverse storytelling (written, verbal, visual, digital).

Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Designs and creates Social Media content daily for numerous social platforms (including Instagram, Instagram Reels, TikTok, X, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Author grammatically correct, well-worded, and engaging posts for official university Social Media platforms
  • Uses creativity and artistic techniques to tell a story or provide information in a visual form
  • Creates and presents original concepts and designs for highly visible multimedia projects and campaigns, including interviews, photography, social, video, animations, and gifs
  • Collaborates with other departments inside UCM and with units across the campus
  • Works with tight deadlines and adapt to changes
  • Manages content intern program with the director of Social Media
  • Uses project management skills to prioritize, initiate, and complete projects and tasks
  • Assists the Social Media Specialists and director of Social Media
  • Researches industry trends and developments and learning new applications
  • Assesses and reports on impact, value, and accomplishments to support data-based decisions
  • Evaluates new platforms and make recommendations for continuous improvement
General Responsibilities
  • Develops and updates Social Media content and monitors brand's social networks, responding to comments and collecting feedback from audiences.
  • Creates comprehensive plans for Social Media engagement, including conducting market research to identify Social Media sites preferred by target audiences, engaging types of posts, and peak engagement posting times.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of Social Media on a variety of metrics, such as changes in website traffic, attendance at Social Media marketed events, and engagement by platform, audience, and type of post.
  • Regularly consults with staff, faculty, colleagues, departments, and/or other stakeholders to curate Social Media content to specific programs, goals, audiences, and objectives.
  • Ensures alignment with university mission, strategies, objectives, and brand guidelines across all Social Media platforms and content.
  • May provide organizational training on Social Media methodology and strategy.
  • May provide guidance to Social Media Assistants or lower-level Social Media Specialists.
Qualifications

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 2 years in relevant field
Preferred
  • 3 years in relevant field

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Premiere Pro, and After Effects; experience with Illustrator and Audition

  • Portfolio of work with a wide range of creative projects
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Understanding of animation, storytelling, and character development techniques.
  • Attention to detail, adaptability, and receptiveness to feedback and direction.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team to develop animations and solve problems.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
