Under the direction of the Vice President and Assistant General Counsel (“VP/AGC”), provides legal guidance related to Casualty and Workers’ Compensation claims coverage issues and coverage litigation by leveraging a demonstrated ability for sound business judgment and an entrepreneurial mindset while supporting a growing Claims organization.

Counsel will be required to evaluate Safety National and other market insurance policies, draft coverage opinions and provide legal assistance to the Claims and Legal Departments.
Supports Claims on coverage issues, including those related mainly to workers compensation, excess workers compensation, employers’ liability, and commercial general liability, public entity, commercial auto, cyber and construction.
Works closely with internal business partners to provide strategic and proactive legal advice on coverage matters, including but not limited to understanding, interpreting and applying current law and regulations to current and prospective insurance products
Provides legal guidance regarding the handling and resolution of coverage issues throughout all phases, including pre-suit through settlement, trial or appeal; provide assistance on declaratory judgments and extra-contractual allegations.
Monitor and provide guidance related to good faith claims handling practices and compliance matters.
Reviews and reports all large coverage cases to managing attorney and prepares timely reports as required
Researches legal issues across multiple jurisdictions
Capable of partnering with outside counsel, as needed
Acts as a liaison in support of Underwriting, Product, Reinsurance and any other business departments
