About the Office or Unit


The is a large and vibrant academic department in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department manager's position supervises an eight member staff which supports approximately 43 professorial faculty, 15 visiting faculty and continuing lecturers, and a PhD program with 75 graduate students. The Department offers approximately 140 courses during the academic year with an enrollment of over 7,000 students from across the university. The Department operates with an annual budget of $18 million including $3 million annually in grants and contracts.


The Opportunity


This position's start date is August 1, 2024. This position is a part-time benefits-eligible position where you would work 30 hours per week, approx. 10.5 months of the year (August 1 - mid June). The Course Support Coordinator role requires occasional evening and weekend hours for prelims and finals, and evening events.


As our Course Support Coordinator, you will provide specialized and extensive Course Support to a variety of math courses and general administrative support to faculty, staff, and students in the department including, but not limited to:

  • Initiating and maintaining online course information/updates in Canvas (course management system), course websites, Student Disability Services systems, Faculty Center.
  • Coordinating special needs cases (overtime/make up exams), academic integrity cases; exam/grading sessions, TA meetings, review sessions.
  • Preparing course materials, coordinates/tracks course logistics all while using a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Administering the department's Summer Session courses including budgeting and staffing.
  • Providing support for department events.
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours for prelims and finals.

Core business hours for the Mathematics department are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM. This position offers flexibility for start and end times, as long as the office is covered between the core business hours. This is typically a hybrid position with 3 days in the office, 2 days remote, with some flexibility required to cover occasional prescheduled evenings and weekends for preliminary and final exams, and evening events. And, in order to ensure mutual success, we'd like for you to be on campus Monday through Friday during your orientation and onboarding period, which will be mutually agreed upon by you and your supervisor.
