JOB SUMMARY:
Provide support and clinical counseling to adults in a short-term, sub-acute crisis stabilization unit. Responsible for developing and implementing intervention strategies, as well as facilitating individual and group counseling to assist in recovery. Provide education, empowerment, and support to the individuals in the unit. Collect data and provide accurate documentation in accordance with regulatory standards. Provide crisis intervention services as needed. Facilitate and obtain information necessary to admit and discharge consumers from the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Maximum of Eight)

1. Provide individual and group counseling services to adults meeting criteria for the Crisis Stabilization Unit in order to promote recovery and meet the program goal of reducing reliance on more restrictive inpatient services. Position will monitor the clinical effectiveness of counseling approaches used in the program.
2. As a CSU counselor, develop and implement intervention strategies through comprehensive needs assessment tool. Collect and maintain data and provide accurate documentation appropriate to the needs of clients served in accordance with all regulatory and licensure standards while complying with confidentiality regulations.
3. Provide case management services to and make appropriate referrals for consumers who meet eligibility criteria for the Crisis Stabilization Unit; person in the position will determine needs and develop treatment goals based upon assessment. Will assist consumers with housing referrals, applications for long-term treatment, and any other services from which the individual might benefit. Provide advocacy for the individual served as needed.
4. Assist the Program manager in obtaining insurance authorizations for CSU services.
5. Serve as CSU representative in court proceedings for TDO hearings held in facility.
6. Assist Program Manager with coordination of program referrals, admissions, and maximum utilization of CSU beds. Assist with Discharge Planning, including liaison and crisis services, referrals, discharge summaries, and follow up services.
7. Actively participates in meetings such as supervision and staffings, and committees as assigned; utilizing these meetings for active problem solving and to enhance a team approach to decision making. Provide clinical supervision to staff regarding recovery, interventions and outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of mental health, substance abuse, and ID symptomology.
• Knowledge of treatment modalities and case management approaches, such as service coordination, behavior management, independent living skills training, supportive counseling, family education, and discharge planning.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and procedures.
• Ability to implement and lead individual and group counseling sessions, focusing on increasing recovery and self-determination.
• Knowledge of mental health, ID, and substance abuse confidentiality guidelines
• Basic computer skills

Minimum Requirements
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Counselor III - (Level 14) Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, and must possess a professional license equivalent to LPC, LCSW, or LMFT. Knowledge of mental illness/substance abuse symptomology and experience working with individuals with mental health and substance abuse disabilities.
