Northpointe Council is looking for a full time Counselor Assistant at our First Step Center, residential facility.
Must be able to commit to three 3-11pm shifts and two 11pm-7am shifts per week

The Counselor Assistant acts as a direct service staff to monitor client behavior/status, train/facilitate client participation in program activities, transports clients to/from approved destinations and appointments, orients clients to FSC, performs admission assessments, recovery care planning, and supervised urine surveillance on same sex clients and/or testing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors client behavior in program activities, groups, external activities, meetings, meals and snack periods, chore completion, recreational activities, visitation and free-time behavior. Completes scheduled and random room checks to account for all clients and documents accordingly. Monitors facility safety and immediately reports any concerns or unsafe conditions to the senior staff member. Employee must remain awake for their entire shift.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trains and facilitates client participation in program activities, sobriety support meetings, completion of daily chores, proper nutrition and hygiene practices, time management, leisure time development and Activity Daily Logs (ADL). May facilitate educational or process groups for clients within the range of his/her expertise.
Transports clients to approved program activities, outside support group meetings, and appointments as approved by program staff. May assist in the transportation of intoxicated clients with another medical personnel to insure safe transfer from/to FSC or an approved medical facility.
Orients new clients to the program by reviewing rules, inventory/secure client personal property, providing assistance in organizing personal belongings, and provides program supplies, assisting in completion of case management forms and paperwork.
Performs admission assessments for clients presented at FSC for admission. Completes initial recovery care plans, recovery care plan updates/reviews in accordance with existing regulatory requirements. Performs supervised urine surveillance on same sex clients and/or testing.
Assists medical staff with admissions, charting, filing, copying and other shift responsibilities. Assists clients with read and filing forms. Assists clients with preparation for discharge or room transfers.
Compiles with all agency and facility policies regarding employee conduct and program requirements. Participates in facility/agency trainings, meetings, supervision sessions, case conferences, orientations and/or quality improvement teams and other committees as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum: high school diploma.
- Associates and/or CASAC T preferred with course work in substance use disorders.
- One year practical experience – paid or internship.
Required License/Certifications:
- Current valid New York State drivers license
