Job description

MHC Healthcare is seeking a Thrift Store Manager to join the Retail team at the Dove Mountain Health Center, located in Tucson, AZ. The Thrift Store Manager oversees the retail operation and donation solicitation for the Cotton Blossom Resale Store and facilitates collaboration with Behavioral Health in the administration of the Work Adjustment Trainee Program.
MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 17 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Our mission is to improve our Community by providing exceptional, whole-person healthcare.
The following qualifications are required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years' experience in retail sales management
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
  • First Aid certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire)
  • Current Arizona driver's license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MHC)

The following qualifications are preferred:
  • Experience using QuickBooks
  • Experience with e-commerce

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.
This position has the following supervisory responsibility:
Supervises and monitors performance for an assigned group of employees. Supervisory duties include hiring and disciplinary actions, overseeing work assignments and quality, scheduling and timekeeping, performance evaluations, and training and development.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results on time with attention to detail.
  • Ability to create financial reports, track sales and operations metrics, and keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotion practices for retail or non-profit initiatives.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Point of Sale (POS) systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization and the general public.
  • Ability to cultivate a culture of respect and service excellence through professionalism, skilled communication, and demonstrated commitment to integrity, trust, respect, and equity.
  • Proven effective leadership with demonstrated ability to effectively direct, delegate, motivate, and build high-performing, collaborative teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads staff and volunteers in sales, merchandising, and donation processing.
  • Collaborates with the CBHO to develop strategies to increase sales, expand online sales (eBay, Craigslist, etc.), and promote new business ventures.
  • Collaborates with Job Coaches and staff from the Work Adjustment Training Program to support Trainee progress.
  • Builds relationships with agencies and community programs to expand resources.
  • Develops marketing practices to promote the Cotton Blossom Resale Store.
  • Tracks store operations metrics and applies retail management principles to achieve projected sales plans and a consistent flow of inventory and donations.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports and presents findings to the CBHO and Director of Accounting and Finance.
  • Recruits and trains all staff and volunteers in the areas of inventory management, merchandise pricing, POS operations, required financial reporting, and metrics.
  • Trains staff on safety, MHC vehicle operation, safe lifting, and other work place safety practices, and completes required documentation.
  • Oversees sorting, pricing, and merchandising of new and donated goods to ensure quality standards and profitability.
  • Maximizes quality and quantity of inventory through smart merchandising and attractive displays.
  • Monitors activity within store to ensure quality customer service is consistent.
  • Attends and participates in management meetings.
  • Manages donation pick-up, delivery, and off-site storage.
  • Drives a medium duty delivery truck to pick up, load, transport, unload, and store donated goods such as furniture, appliances, clothing, and other merchandise as needed.
