Based at our Jessup and Baltimore Maryland sites the Cost Accountant is responsible for costing, inventory reporting, variance reporting, fixed asset register, production recording and reporting. The Cost Accountant will drive improvements through analysis, highlighting areas for improvements in processes, systems, efficiencies and cost reductions. The Cost Accountant will be Involved in report development, report writing, business applications support and improvements in the ERP system, Salesforce, payroll, workflow, Power BI and any other systems as and when they are introduced.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares daily, and weekly reconciliations that verify operational production.
- Gathers and compiles cost information and maintains the ERP database.
- Works with outside vendors on inventory accuracies.
- Predicts, plans, and records variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
- Reviews and analyzes actual costs to identify inaccuracies.
- Prepares necessary departmental and company-wide budgeting reports.
- Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual profit margins.
- Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance.
- Determines and recommends cost-effective solutions.
- Develops and improves reporting systems (Salesforce, Business Intelligence, ERP, HR Database).
- Automates month end close.
- Automates month end reporting.
- Improves costing visibility and understanding.
- Improves manufacturing variance and PPV visibility and understanding.
- Develops and improves cost center and profit center reporting (DC vs CO for example).
- Drives improvements and savings in:
o Overtime
o Overheads
o Labor efficiencies
o Production efficiencies
o Scrap and waste
o Purchase price variance - Works with Operations Management but also holds them accountable.
- In regards to Inventory Analysis and Control:
o Reduces slow moving and obsolete inventory;
o Keeps inventory lean;
o Drives inventory accuracy. - Budgeting and Forecasting
- Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university.
- Experience in Accounting, costing or related business role.
- Systems experience.
- Detail oriented.
