Position Summary
Works under general supervision to perform interviews and thoroughly investigate criminal activity within the Division of Corrections.
Pay Grade: 51
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
1. Five (5) years of experience in correctional counseling, as a correctional officer, or investigator; AND
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, criminal justice, or closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Testifies in court and civil service hearings, conducts interviews, obtains statements from witnesses.
2. Interviews defendants and witnesses.
3. Verifies information obtained to establish accuracy of facts and/or evidence.
4. Investigates criminal misconduct or use of force complaints by correction employees.
5. Collects and handles evidence to preserve chain of custody.
6. Develops detailed and accurate reports.
7. Receives special investigation assignments when applicable.
8. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

1. Extensive knowledge of the law, investigative techniques and court proceedings.
2. Knowledge of basic principles and techniques of investigating.
3. Ability to present findings in clear, logical, impartial and properly documented reports.
4. Ability to evaluate reliability and credibility of statement and witnesses.
5. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations, making decisions and solving problems.
6. Ability to write meaningful investigative reports.
7. Ability to conduct criminal background inquiries.
8. Ability to locate and communicate with witnesses.
9. Ability to analyze factors involved in the case.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work irregular hours and required overtime.
