Description
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates correctional facilitiesthat house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of theCommonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out themandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquireskills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Luther Luckett Correctional Complex (LLCC) is seeking applicants for a Corrections Education Specialist Iat the institution. This position provides targeted instruction to adult inmates within the correctionalfacility.
Education is also shown to improve inmates' chances of obtaining employment after release. Obtainingemployment among inmates post-release who participated in either academic or vocational Corrections Educationis 13 percent higher than the odds for those who did not participate.

The ideal candidate must practice self-management in attendance, punctuality, dependability, responsibility,and career development. Situational awareness in safety and security is an essential priority in thisposition.

- Provide targeted instruction in grade level appropriate curriculum content to inmate students within thecorrectional setting resulting in skills necessary to secure, retain, and become successful in business andindustry upon release.
- Advise students and provide support regarding their individual vocational and academic goals.
- Monitor classroom to include discipline and safety and security of students and staff.
- Maintain and produce accurate student and school records and reports regarding student assessments andprogress.
- Monitor program effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in education (academic).

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting within a correctional institution.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
