**The standardized annual salary for this position is $51,201 dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval.**

Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II, this position is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Sergeants at a medium custody male correctional facility. This position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit in the absence of the CHUM II.
  2. Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions.
  3. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
  4. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
  5. Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
  6. Responding to emergency situations such as: distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
  7. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
  8. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
  9. Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
  10. Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC07(Salary Range: $34,084 - $59,646). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About Warren Correctional Institution:
Warren Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Manson, NC which houses approximately 725 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to one Correction Enterprises operation located off site: The Janitorial Product Plant manufactures a variety of cleaning products, soap, and plastic bags that are sold to various agencies/companies.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
  1. Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.
  2. Documented knowledge of Facility Operations.
  3. Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedures.
  4. Documented report writing skills.
  5. Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of correctional experience, one of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
