What You’ll Do:

  • Acts for the Warden for assigned operations
  • Works in conjunction with and at the direction of the Chief Inspector's Office
  • Communicates matters of critical importance as soon as possible to the Chief Inspector’s Office (e.g., removal of staff/contractors/visitors due to investigation, serious assaults, suspicious deaths, overdoses, escapes, suicides)
  • Coordinates investigations with Chief Inspector’s Office
  • Serves as the liaison between the Warden and the Ohio Highway Patrol, prosecutors office and other law enforcement agencies in all investigative matters of incarcerated individuals and/or staff
  • Conducts investigations dealing with drugs, contraband, employee/incarcerated individuals relationships and violations of laws, rules and/or policies by visitors and/or staff
  • Monitors incarcerated individuals phone system
  • Serves as the administrative liaison between the warden, resident population and staff in matters of litigation against the institution and staff
  • Attends training as directed and effectively utilizes technology
  • Researches and responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public and outside agencies
  • Prepares reports, position papers, legal documents and/or correspondence
  • Represents the Warden for orientation of new staff & incarcerated individuals
  • Trains staff on investigative techniques
  • Serves on institutional committees
  • Attends training as directed
  • Acts as the duty officer as assigned

Qualifications

2 yrs. exp. in Ohio's adult rehabilitation & correction system; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in English grammar & composition or business communication.
  • Or completion of undergraduate major core program in criminal justice or related field.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing:
All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana.

Pre-Employment Background Investigation:
