Corporate Quality Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

REPORTS TO:                    Director of Product Management

 

DIRECT REPORTS:           Plant Quality Personnel

 

FLSA STATUS:       Exempt

 

 

ROLE:  This position has overall management responsibility for Genpak’s Quality Assurance.  Responsibilities include setting and maintaining QA policies, processes, and procedures across multiple facilities; development and monitoring of QA information systems; coordinating responses to quality issues; coaching and mentoring the plant Quality personnel; and supporting quality certification requirements. In executing these activities, this person works with the corporate and plant teams and coordinates with vendors. Key deliverables are being able to actively identify quality issues, address them in conjunction with manufacturing to minimize waste and downtime, maintain all industry relevant audits, unifying and streamlining all quality testing procedures across all facilities. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setting and maintaining QA policies and procedures– This person will be the key driver of Genpak’s QA policies and procedures. They will need to ensure that all facilities are measuring, recording, and reporting consistently, accurately, and in accordance with set policies.  Strong record keeping, management of change, and training skills will be key in successfully implementing a consistent program across all facilities.   

 

  • Development and monitoring of QA information systems – As Genpak is actively expanding it’s digital QA capabilities, this person will be the driver of system setup, interaction, training, and monitoring. For this system to be successful, these parameters must be set up properly to alert the necessary personnel in real time to immediately bring attention to critical issues.

 

  • Coordinating responses to quality issues – The Corporate QA Manager is the primary point person in the response to quality complaints. They will be responsible for internal communication of the issues and the required plant responses.  This activity will also include recording and tracking issues, maintaining a database of quality information, and communicating issues out to necessary managers through online dashboards and regular meetings. This individual will make visits to customers as needed to identify issues and develop corrective action plans.

 

  • Support quality certification requirements – Genpak facilities must be repeatedly certified by various external auditing organizations as well as specific key customers. This person will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating these activities with the external organization and the facilities to be audited.  In addition to this, they will also be responsible for the record keeping and communication of plant performance in these audits.

 

  • Additional responsibilities include:
    • Support internal product development efforts in the creation of new specifications and testing methodology.
    • Other duties as necessary

Requirements

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

Interpersonal/Communication:

Technical Knowledge:

  • Stay up to date on evolving equipment and methods, implementing as necessary.
  • Strong understanding of Quality monitoring systems (Infinity QS preferred).
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis.
  • Ability to read, understand and analyze statistical data and characteristics.
  • Ability to correctly utilize gauging equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality methodologies to propose solutions to compliance issues.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external sources in addressing issues.
  • Strong knowledge of 8D and CAPA problem solving processes.

 

Efficiency:

  • Demonstrate ability to initiate and perform root cause analysis and implement corrective action to drive improvement.
  • Ability to meet or exceed performance standards and continuously improve upon them.
  • Strong knowledge of 8D and CAPA problem solving processes.
  • Source and implement new methods and procedures to make the data acquisition and analysis as efficient as possible.

 

Compliance & Regulatory:

  • Thorough knowledge of food safety requirements including compliance and certification requirements for SQF and GMP.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and ensure compliance with customer specific audits such as: Yum Brands, Panda Express, etc.
  • Maintain required records and documentation, as related to materials and supplies, for internal/external audit requirements including SPC, GMP, SQF and customer specific (Panda Express, Yum).
  • Create processes, ensure compliance and train employees on standard operational procedures in relation to SPC program, polices, procedures and third party GMP audits.
