What You’ll Do
As a Corporate Counsel, Real Estate, you will be, supporting Rural King’s Real Estate strategy and operations, including the legal aspects of leasing and sale of retail, commercial, industrial, and vacant property for all of the Rural King related entities.
- Primarily support and advise management in all legal aspects of Real Estate issues including lease negotiations and disputes, zoning issues and construction matters.
- Communicate with other areas within the company to answer and advise regarding any Real Estate related questions/interpretations.
- Responsible for verifying all critical portfolio dates: lease commencement date, rent commencement date, possession dates, rent schedules, rent increase dates, option notice dates, expiration dates, etc.
- Coordinate with other internal stakeholders regarding real property tax assessments and assist General Counsel to prepare multi-jurisdictional appeals.
- Work with General Counsel to resolve broad range of Company’s expanding legal
- Developing business best practices and procedures that will mitigate Company’s risk.
- Identifying the need for legal support for business transactions and projects.
- Respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers and the business community as needed.
- Create business legal reports and correspondence, and effectively present information to senior management.
- Assist management on general contracts, third-party agreements, and vendor supplier relationships.
- Manage external counsel and general litigation related to Real Estate.
- Prepare and file government reports.
- Review new business relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
- Guide managers on regulatory and legal compliance matters.
- Analyze legal issues relating to proposed ideas.
- Draft broad range of legal documents, including documents needed to form and operate various business entities.
- Provide supervision to outside lawyers hired to assist the Company with their specialized legal services.
- Use discretion and independent judgment in daily decisions while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Actively participate in learning initiatives offered such as training programs, workshops, and webinars. Leverage these opportunities to acquire new knowledge, refine existing skills, and stay current on the latest developments.
- Provide friendly, proactive, and professional internal and external support to others, assisting with inquiries, concerns, and issues promptly and effectively.

Essential Qualities for Success
- Juris Doctorate Degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
- Minimum of two to five years of applicable law practice experience preferred.
- Attorney’s license in Illinois (Dual license in other states of operation helpful)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas, instructions, and information clearly and concisely.
- Experience in managing multiple tasks and maintain a proactive and results-driven approach.
- Strong communication and persuasive skills to negotiate and influence stakeholders at various levels in the organization.
- Beneficial if experience with corporate transactions or transportation and logistics, but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Comfortable navigating computer systems and software to assist customers or manage activities.
- Ability to maintain a seated or standing position for extended durations.
- Capability to lift 15 pounds periodically.
- Ability to navigate and access all facilities.
- Skill to effectively communicate verbally with others, both in-person and via electronic devices.
