About the Role & Team
Disney Publishing Worldwide is seeking a Copy Editor responsible for copyediting and proofreading fiction and nonfiction titles for all ages on a project-by-project basis! As a Copy Editor, you will have attention to detail, be self-motivated, and possess excellent follow-up skills.
You will report to the Copy Chief
This is a part-time recurring role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, work is assigned on a project-by-project basis and hours will fluctuate based on business needs.
What You Will Do
Every single day in the Copy Editor role is different! On any one day, you might:
Copyedit short manuscripts (picture books, chapter books, and short stories) and longer manuscripts (middle grade, young adult, and adult novels) to ensure sense, continuity, quality of grammar, spelling, and style, and accuracy and consistency of text and art
Perform proofreading at all book stages to check that changes and corrections have been completed as requested
Create and update house style guides for authors and staff
Required Qualifications & Skills
3 years experience as a Copy Editor, preferably with some experience in children’s and/or young adult books
Ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
College-level understanding of literature, grammar, style, and spelling
Meticulous attention to detail
Capable of working very tight deadlines, sometimes on short notice
Ability to work with digital documents, using Word and Adobe software
Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition, comfort working with a house style and individual series guidelines and nomenclature
Spanish-language editing skills strongly preferred
Availability on weekdays, during business hours
