Description

Position Title: Coordinator, Environmental Projects
Division: Social Enterprise
Department: Environmental Projects
Reports to: Manager, Environmental Projects Senior
FLSA Status: Full-time / Non-Exempt
Compensation: $26.06 to $30.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:45am-4:15pm; occasionally 7:15am-3:45pm; occasional weekends and evenings may be required
Location: This position is 100% in-person, located at 2650 Senter Road Some presence may be required at our other location at 1560 Berger Road.
Travel: Local travel may be required up to 40% of the time.

Position Summary:

The Environmental Projects Coordinator is responsible for providing direct leadership and support to field crews and assisting Environmental Projects Field Site Supervisors in training and logistical coordination. The Environmental Projects Coordinator is responsible for operations, ensuring that crews are adequately trained and prepared to perform high quality project work in a positive, safe, and productive environment.

 

The Environmental Projects Coordinator is expected to provide leadership and support field crews with programmatic goals and support of field crews and operations will include but not be limited to: working with crews at their project sites, assisting in training crew leaders and members, performing project site visits, managing logistics for standard and specialized crews, maintaining tools and equipment, helping in the field office, and provide safety training to all new Corpsmembers during orientation and supervisors.

 

Job Duties:

General

  • Communicate with the project sponsor, sub-contractor, or contractor
  • Organize, direct, and lead a crew of Corpsmembers to work efficiently to complete projects in the allotted timeframe, ensuring a high quality of work
  • Build an outstanding production team by developing and working with Corpsmembers to build and support a team environment
  • Determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements for each project
  • Ensure that SJCC+CS policies are upheld and followed on the job site.
  • Collaborate with program staff
  • Demonstrate role model behaviors on ethics and integrity as well as positively promote company culture
  • Take appropriate safety precautions in the performance of job duties
  • Oversee maintenance of vehicles, keys, gas cards, and registration papers. Complete pre and post-trip inspection before and after the use of any company vehicle.

Administration and Team Communication

  • Complete attendance tracking, daily and weekly reports, corpsmember evaluations, timesheet approval, roster reconciliation, disciplinary action forms, incident reports, etc., and submit in a timely and highly detailed manner;
  • Use Recycle iQ and Corps iQ to track team progress and key project data;
  • Check in daily and submit comprehensive End of Day Reports daily on Slack;
  • Contribute to an organized and high-performing workplace.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Manage, supervise, and lead the day-to-day engagement of corpsmembers in project work;
  • Implement skills training and facilitate intentional discussions and informal lessons to contribute to the corpsmembers’ personal growth and group dynamics;
  • Promote individual corpsmember development and a healthy, supportive community;
  • Follow and enforce all SJCC policies, maintain professional boundaries, and appropriately represent the San Jose Conservation Corps.

General Project Management & Implementation

  • Train and motivate a crew of young adults to complete projects safely and efficiently on SJCC campuses and at partner locations;
  • Delegate project work to SJCC corpsmember;
  • Think critically to resolve issues and solve problems;
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate logistics with project partners, corpsmembers, and SJCC staff.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Monitor and support the corpsmembers' physical and emotional safety during work hours, while implementing any work project;
  • Ensure corpsmembers are wearing proper uniforms and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
  • Exhibit strong situational awareness & promote a culture of safety;
  • Transport corpsmembers and equipment safely in SJCC vans or large vehicles;
  • Follow SJCC COVID-19 Mitigation protocol and ensure corpsmembers do the same;
  • Support vaccine committee and other wellness committees led by the Human Resources team;
  • Conduct daily inspections, cleanouts, and maintenance of vehicles;
  • Regularly review the Corpsmember Handbook and maintain familiarity with all policies;
  • Report incidents to management immediately and appropriately.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: $26.06 to $30.00 per hour. Placement on the compensation scale is determined using a number of factors, including the candidate’s level of experience and education that either meets or significantly exceeds the minimum requirements.

Work Environment & Requirements

Position requires sitting, standing, balancing or walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, reaching overhead and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment, plus the ability to speak and to hear. The ability to lift, carry, push and pull tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required. The incumbent in this position works outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. In the course of work the incumbent may be exposed to biologic/infectious agents, unpleasant odors, fumes, smoke, dust and air contaminants, and insects. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles, work near moving equipment, vehicles or machinery, work on ladders or scaffolding or at heights. The incumbent may be required to use protective clothing, equipment, or devices, and may work near hostile or offensive individuals. May be exposed to biohazards and/or hazardous chemicals. The nature of the work requires that the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment and drive motorized vehicles, commonly subjecting the incumbent to vibration. Employment At-Will

The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time.  Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate.   This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the Executive Director of SJCC+CS.

 

**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**

All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated.  Fully vaccinated means at it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of supervisory experience leading young adults, OR;
    • Equivalent experience that demonstrates the ability to work in team-oriented settings and lead others
  • 1 year of work experience driving with passengers
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to self-direct, problem solve, be creative, manage conflict and be flexible in order to meet programmatic goals
  • Proficiency with navigating Windows Computers and the following programs: Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets

Driving Record and Requirements: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.
