Convention Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Join a group of communications professionals who are passionate about marketing the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region as the ideal destination for meetings and conventions. This dynamic sales and marketing position will provide the opportunity to share what you love about where you live with meeting planners across the country. You'll utilize your knowledge of creative writing and administrative skills to support a dedicated team responsible for bringing overnight stays to the region through group events.

Purpose of Position:

To promote the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region as a convention destination by supporting sales and marketing efforts.

Sales Support

• Develop and qualify sales leads for conventions, meetings, and events, primarily prospecting from contacts collected through sales efforts
• Learn and utilize software systems used by Travel Lane County for content, contact and project management
• Confirm rebooked business as directed
• Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with hotel and venue sales personnel
• Provide administrative support
• Assist with proposal creation and manage the proposal process including distributing, issuing reminders and tracking responses
• Assist with client research and other projects as needed
• Maintain files and trace system, with accurate and detailed records of client conversations and correspondence
• Assist with event services and client site visits as needed

Marketing Support

• Write on-brand content for industry publications, websites, blogs, presentations, social media and marketing collateral
• Implement content (press releases, articles, blogs, listings) across all platforms (websites, e newsletters, third-party channels, etc.)
• Manage list of partners to be highlighted in newsletters
• Support owned, earned and paid media efforts (research, data entry, media pitches, advertising and reports)

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend relevant staff and industry meetings
• This position works as part of a team, and other tasks may be assigned as needed

Position Preferred Qualifications:

We will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job as meeting our preferred qualifications.

• College degree preferred. Degree in journalism, marketing, business or hospitality helpful
• One-year experience in a corporate setting, preferably in a marketing or sales related role
• Forward thinking and innovative
• Process-oriented, extreme attention to detail, organized and able to multi-task
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on writing web content, blogs and e-newsletters
• Strong interest in learning all aspects of the sales and marketing process
• Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with a wide variety of people in both group and one-on-one sales situations
• Ability to represent the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region and Travel Lane County partner products to media and stakeholders
• Working knowledge of meetings industry preferred
• Experience with a variety of computer programs preferred (CRM, CMS, Microsoft Office Adobe Creative Suite)
• Willing to work events after hours and on weekends when necessary and travel if needed
• Eager to assist and follow directions
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 35 pounds
• Must have a valid Driver's License and clean driving record

Compensation/Hours

• This is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position of 40 hours per week.
• This position reports to the Senior Director, Conventions
• Benefits include medical and dental insurance as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. Employee eligible for employer contribution into SEP/IRA after two years of employment
• Hourly compensation $19 - 20/hour
