Job Description: Controls Software Engineer
Precision Control Systems, Inc (PCS) is an established small business founded in 1998 located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. PCS designs & manufactures infrared heaters, custom systems, and power control systems. We offer a full benefit and bonus package for our employees.
We are looking for a full-time employee to assist in the implementation of PLCs, Operator Interfaces (HMI) and discrete controllers for our systems used in a wide range of industries (medical, aerospace, printing, extrusion, drying, general manufacturing & others).
The employee will require the following:
- A strong understanding of the electrical, mechanical, and Software Engineering principles needed to create and maintain automated processes.
- Understanding of PLC control capabilities and languages, including ladder logic, sequential function block, structured text. Experience with Allen Bradley, Horner, Siemens PLC is preferred.
- Understanding of HMI development using tools from Maple Systems, Wientek, Siemens, Horner. Resulting HMI will provide the users with the views to effectively operate the machines we produce.
- Ability to create operator interface (HMI) displays that allow the operator to easily interact with the system.
- Understanding of measurement devices including temperature, speed, distance, pressure, and time.
- Understanding of actuators including stepper motors, pneumatic actuators, VFD and SCR controllers
- Understanding of various industrial device interconnect protocols such as Ethernet I/P, Modbus/TCP, Serial, etc.
- Ability to read wiring schematics, electrical drawings, and manuals to determine the architecture of the system being designed/programmed.
- Ability to interact with Sales, Engineering, and the customer to create the system that meets known needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to review software and electro-mechanical devices and identify a problem source & solution.
- Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the various mechanical parts of the system.
- Ability to listen to customer requirements and develop a system to meets those needs.
- Familiar with various office tools to create documentation for the systems.
- Occasional onsite startup assistance at customer facility, sometimes requiring overnight travel. (typically, less than 5%)
- May require occasion light hands-on assembly to assist in project completion.

Pay: $73,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
