CLX Engineering is seeking highly motivated and resourceful Controls Field Technicians who thrive in diverse environments such as airport baggage handling systems, theme parks, and other automated facilities. Our positions entail significant travel of up to 85%, with most of the work requiring overnight shifts. The right candidate will have the opportunity to progress swiftly, moving from troubleshooting and editing PLC code to writing and programming code from scratch.
As a Controls Field Technician II (Field Tech II) at CLX, you will be an experienced industrial automation technician with a strong understanding of electronics, control panels, and electrical wiring. Field Tech IIs are well-versed in control system concepts and adept at providing efficient support for troubleshooting and commissioning alongside Integration Engineers at client sites and during project completions. While working with a certain level of autonomy, Field Tech IIs will travel to client locations and carry out troubleshooting and commissioning tasks. The ideal candidates are comfortable operating under pressure and posses excellent interpersonal skills to effectively assist external and internal customers in resolving issues promptly. Field Tech IIs must collaborate with all project stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of short- and long-term projects.
Controls Field Technicians II's work primarily takes place at airports, theme parks, and our internal Panel shop. The responsibilities encompass a range of task, including basic programming, troubleshooting, testing, and ensuring the Integration Engineers and Project Management teams understand the requirements of future work completion. For this specific position, we are particularly interested in candidates familiar with material handling systems, coders, and photo Is. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is necessary, along with the ability to effectively document standards and that status of completed work.
Controls Field Technician IIs are non-exempt hourly positions that report to our Controls Engineer department. Candidates can expect frequent client interactions while representing CLX Engineering. Although the work environments are often dirty, it is essential to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.

- Read electrical schematics, troubleshoot issues, and produce electrical prints
- Create control panels from electrical prints and execute ideas that make control systems more efficient
- Observe systems, locate, and resolve issues with control components
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of electrical and control devices and their application in systems
- Possess knowledge of safety practices (use of PPE, situational dangers)
- Execute the use of hand and power tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, etc.)
- Competently use electrical testing devices (multi-meters)
- Utilize common computer software (Microsoft Office, internet, etc.)
- Operate professional software used in creating and maintaining control systems (AutoCAD, PLC programming software) and their use in troubleshooting control systems
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- Depending on the project, must be able to travel up to 80% annually, sometimes last minute and/or sporadically

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
CLX Engineering Controls Field Technician IIs must have the following credentials, skills, and experience:
- High school diploma or AS Degree with equivalent, applied experience
- At least 2 years experience in the industrial automation electrical field
- Must be able to troubleshoot and edit others' programming code
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations
- A clean, responsible driving record and the ability to provide required insurance documentation
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours (nights and weekends) and ability to work a heavy travel schedule
- Possess or ability to obtain a passport, pass initial and client-specific background checks, and drug screen
- Present a professional demeanor and appearance even in casual and manufacturing environments
DESIRES SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to code a little from scratch in PLC Software (Studio or Logix 5000) or equivalent (i.e., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi)
- AutoCAD proficiency, especially AutoCAD Electrical
