Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Controls Intern will assist the plant engineering staff with daily controls support for the plant. Successful candidate will gain experience in the design and operations of Power Plant control systems, instrumentation, and plant electrical systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Fast pace learning of the plant's DCS controls system.
- Field verification and resolution of print and set point discrepancies.
- Rebuild/Repair/Reload control system computers.
- Organize materials and information from past projects.
- Audit alarm management documentation and perform general simulator maintenance.
- Liaison for DCS requests, system backups, and simple maintenance.
- Networking Cable Management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in an electrical/computer/controls engineering related field and in good academic standing.
- Self-starter with ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- Committed to excellence in environmental and safety performance and compliance.
- Ability to work safely, timely, and within budget.
- Strong skills in basic Electrical and Controls fundamentals.
- Possess the following skills: able to communicate at all levels, excellent written and verbal communication skills, Strong problem solving and resolution skills, ability to manage multiple tasks with varying due dates, able to assist in the field.
- General software knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint...etc.) and Accounting/Purchasing Software
- Ability to work in a team environment.
The work environment combines both office and plant working conditions. Candidate must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and fall protection harnesses. Intern may be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals. The successful candidate must occasionally work outside normal business hours as necessary to support emergent situations and planned outages. This position is a plant-based position and is not eligible for remote work scheduling.
