Description
You would be responsible for providing Controls Engineering and electrical support for an automotive parts manufacturing facility. The work is of a technical nature where decisions are made within limits of general practices and procedures, but where supervision is available to handle unusual situations. You will also spend time implementing objectives for ergonomics, health/safety and housekeeping which means that you will have to investigate system and equipment problems and provide technical input in problem resolution.
The Role:
- Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project.
- Function as an electrical technical support resource for engineering and production environments in a large automotive parts manufacturing facility with focus on safety, people, quality, responsiveness, cost, and environmental initiatives
- Program manufacturing technology (PLC’s, HMI’s, robotics, etc.)
- Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities to represent engineering and to assist in reaching the plant’s performance goals.
- Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems.
- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
- Frequent communications with others outside of work group including United Auto Workers union hourly employees and skilled trades journeypersons

- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- High level problem solving/troubleshooting ability in a technical environment
- Able to work full time, 40 hours per week with additional weekend hours as required in a manufacturing plant environment
- Ability to work any shift 1st, 2nd or 3rd as assigned with opportunity to rotate to other shifts as needed
- Prior experience in automotive manufacturing
- Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programming experience
- Computer Aided Design experience, both electrical and mechanical
- Thorough knowledge of robot interfacing/programming and weld processes
- Experience in system error-proofing
- Experience in variable frequency drives
Education and Training
- College degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Control System Engineering, Controls Engineering or Computer Engineering
