What you’ll be doing

 

As Controller, you will direct and control the company’s general accounting functions. You’ll establish practices and procedures, ensuring adherence to appropriate accounting principles. You will prepare and present financial statements for California Casualty Management Company (CCMC) and California Casualty Group (CCG) as well as provide financial reports to management, the Board of Directors, and regulatory and rating agencies.

 

Role and responsibilities of the Controller include:

 

Operational Management: Plan and direct the accounting activities of CCMC and CCG to ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements; develop and implement financial, managerial and operational accounting processes and systems to enable the efficient operations of the enterprise. Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual closes of the company financials to ensure timely and accurate completion of each activity.

 

Management Advisor: Advise corporate and operating management regarding all accounting matters; update management on issues related to the financial aspects of the business. Interact with auditors, governmental agencies, consultants and external financial and industry executives on all accounting subjects. Keep management informed of issues related to the financial aspects of the business.

 

Financial Reporting: Plan and direct the financial reporting activities (both internal and external) of CCMC and CCG to ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the CCMC Board of Directors and the CCG Advisory Board and its financial committees. Prepare all CCMC and CCG financial statements and reports for management, boards of directors, AM Best Company and departments of insurance.

 

Compliance Research: Conduct special accounting research and analyses, collaborate with external auditors, and recommend appropriate accounting treatment consistent with generally accepted accounting principles (for CCMC) and statutory accounting principles (for CCG).

 

Accounting Systems: Monitor and evaluate the accounting systems; when appropriate, lead vendor search, recommend alternative solutions, and implement product.

 

Staff Management: Recruit, select, and train employees in order to meet department objectives. Establish performance goals, expectations and monitor those results. Provide performance feedback, coaching, and corrective action, as needed.


Qualifications

Educational, Knowledge, Skill, & Experience Requirements

  • P&C insurance and statutory accounting experience
  • Corporate tax and compliance experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA required
  • 10-15 years of accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility and at least five years of experience at a senior management level required.
  • System and Application experience: Oracle EBS, SOVOS Statutory Reporting and advanced Microsoft Office skills a plus

The pay range for this position is $139,000 – 162,500+ DOE per year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The company also offers a full range of medical, financial and other benefits,including eligibility for the company’s performance sharing plan and paid time off such as holidays, vacation, sick and personal holidays. 

 

Position located in Colorado Springs Service Center preferred.  Open to consider remote candidates with some travel required.
