Summary:

The Controller - Shipyards role will be responsible for the financial management of Trident's "Old Yard"/Tacoma/Dutch Harbor AK vessel support facility operations and will provide strong partnership with Trident's Alaska Manufacturing Controllers.

This position will ensure all accounting/reporting is done in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with Trident Accounting policies. The position will also provide Finance decision support to yard leadership, vessel operations, and northbound logistics teams. This position will be based at the Support Center office in Seattle or on-site in Tacoma WA.  Travel to remote AK locations, particularly Dutch Harbor, will be required.

  • Ensures the accuracy of monthly closing of books, including reparation of month-end journal entries and maintaining the general ledger, accurate calculation and allocation of internal Labor and Moorage costs to relevant Trident Plants and projects, miscellaneous Moorage billing to external entities, accurate charge out of monthly yard overheads, and oversight of yard inventory accounts.
  • Provides accurate and timely operational performance reporting to the company level management teams for the Tacoma, Dutch Harbor, and Old Yards.
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of inventory accounting records, as well as strict compliance to all company policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Leads the annual budget planning process for Tacoma and Old Yard facilities, including preparation of Support Labor and OPEX spend plans.
    • Issues monthly reports outlining:
      • Actual spending to Plan
      • Actual Port Charges to Plan
      • Capital Spending to Plan
  • Assists management team with identifying cost/performance improvement opportunities as well as all relevant CAPEX planning for all Yard initiated Capital requests.
  • Tracks, validates, and assists in planning of continuous improvement and cost savings projects.
  • Exhibits necessary ERP system proficiency for both finance and other accounting functions (SAP experience preferred). 
  • Maintains on site controls related to inventory, capital, and spending.  Provides support to internal and external audit requests as well as compliance reporting.
  • Monitors compliance with Trident inventory keeping standards and cycle counting procedures.  Represents Finance in the implementation of SAP Inventory Management (IM) across yard locations.

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $94k to $118k.

Minimum Requirements 

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • 5 years' experience in accounting/financial roles supporting manufacturing, logistics, shipyards, and/or supply chain functions.
  • Manufacturing, Logistics or Operations finance/accounting experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance from an accredited four-year college or university; or the equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
  • Strong Financial Analysis skills and knowledge of Cost Accounting principles
  • Experience with an integrated ERP system
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Preferred education and experience

  • A masters in Accounting or Business Administration
  • CPA, or CMA
  • Food and/or Seaborn Transportation industry experience
  • Experience with SAP Controlling (CO), MM, PM, and SCM functionality
  • SAP H/4 HANA experience

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for long periods and often sit at a desk in an office environment.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.  During visits to production locations, the employee will need normal vision and hearing to safely navigate production floors and warehouses. The employee moves objects occasionally up to 25 pounds.
