Our client, a multi-employer Taft-Hartley Benefits Fund located in Iselin New Jersey is seeking a Controller. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. The Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of Finance and Accounting for several related benefit funds including, but not limited to:
- Managing a staff of 3-4 full-time employees
- Design, development, and implementation of internal controls
- Monitor banking activities and cash flow across all accounts
- Prepare monthly interim financial statements, expense disbursements and cash-flow projections.
- Work with Executive Director to develop meaningful, ad-hoc reporting metrics, such as Welfare Utilization Reports, among others
- Assist/manage compliance matters, such as:
- All governmental filings (Payroll, 5500s, 990s, 1099s W-2s, 1095s, 945s)
- Participant/employer notices (SAR, AFN, 104(d))
- General Ledger functions, including Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Timely reconciliation of all cash and investment accounts
- Prepared manage annual operating budget
- Prepare, track and manage 12-month cash-flow projections for all funds
- Manage relationships with outside Auditors and vendor partners
- Integrate with other departments
- Process payroll
- Manage all insurance policy renewals in conjunction with the designated Broker of Record
- Communicate with governmental and regulatory agencies as necessary
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of five years of related progressive financial/accounting management experience in a Multi-Employer/ERISA environment
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Strong management experience, including interaction with Executive Management and Trustees
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff at all levels
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Proficient with QuickBooks
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop finance/accounting staff and assist in the development and implementation of goals and policies and related financial procedures
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function independently and in a team environment
- Must be a self-starter
