The NJ Division of Merola Tile employs approximately 130 people and distributes tile in the U.S. and Canada through The Home Depot, independently owned tile showrooms, and numerous e-commerce retailers under the Merola Tile, SomerTile, and Elite Tile brand names. In managing the Accounting team, the Controller will partner with the CFO to:
- Ensure that best practices for a dynamic, growing organization are followed and that the internal control environment is sound.
- Challenge the status quo and promote a culture of continuous improvement for the company and for each team member.
- Maintain a people focus and collaborate with colleagues company-wide.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate, timely, and relevant accounting of business results.
- Oversee daily accounting – receivables, payables, general ledger, inventory, and fixed assets.
- Control expenses.
- Provide leadership with vital business intelligence through reports and analyses.
- Administer the annual budget and periodic forecasts and related variance analyses.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database.
- Build and improve processes. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Recommend benchmarks to measure the company’s and the department’s performance.
- Work with external auditors and provide information for the quarterly and annual reviews and tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Oversee department training and identify training needs.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Education

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business. Master’s degree preferred.
- Ten years of relevant accounting experience.
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

Physical Requirements:
